Bridgwater Town Council have announced that they are now reopening the town’s cemetaries.
They said the following on their website:
Bridgwater Town Council are responsible for Bristol Road and Quantock Road Cemeteries. Any other cemeteries you will need to contact the burial authority responsible.
Bridgwater Town Cemeteries have now been re-opened. A statement from the Town Clerk, David Mears, runs as follows
We recognise that we all need to visit the resting place of our loved ones. We are grateful that the Government has allowed us to reopen the cemeteries. However, we have a difficult balancing act, due to the protection of our ground staff who maintain the grounds daily and prepare for funerals and of course, the public that attend funerals. We have funerals most days at present and therefore we are looking at only opening the cemeteries when funerals will not take place.
To enable you to plan visits the cemeteries, they will be closed to the public for the reasons outlined above on –
Monday to Friday 08:00am until 16:00hrs. The cemeteries will be open outside of these hours including weekends and bank holidays.
We have been asked questions concerning the cemeteries being left open overnight, this has been the practice for the last couple of years.
We are all experiencing very difficult and strange times and we are doing our best to accommodate grieving relatives and friends and to ensure public and employee safety.
Social distancing must be observed at all times, inline with Government advice.
