Bridgwater Heritage Open Day
The Unitarian Chapel in Dampiet Street, Bridgwater will be open to visitors from
10.00 am to 4.00 pm on Saturday 21st September 2019 during the national
Heritage Open Days event.
You are warmly invited to take a look around the Chapel constructed in 1688 with its
original Box Pews; Gallery and magnificent organ.
Hear about many of the notable families who have worshiped here over the years;
Captain George Lewis Browne, Assistant Signal Officer on board ‘Victory’ alongside
Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar. Or Joel Spiller whose name was eventually to
be given to a brand of dog biscuits!
Hear about poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge – not that he was just a poet. Did you
know that before this period of his life he was training to become a Unitarian
Minister? And there are many more.
Tea/Coffee and biscuits served in the Schoolroom. We look forward to meeting you.
