In a recent tweet, Avon and Somerset Police have warned that there is a current scam taking place, where the caller is claiming to be calling from HM Revenue & Customs.
Police are warning that you should never pass over any personal information if you receive one of these calls. If you were to receive a call from them, they would not be requesting all of this information as they would already have it. There are warnings that you should just say no, but our advice is to simply hang up the phone.
The tweet says “We’ve had reports of people receiving a call with an automated message claiming to be from HMRC. Please be aware this is a SCAM. If you receive a call DO NOT give any personal information. Contact @ActionFrauduk on 0300 123 2040 or online at http://socsi.in/DYxwA”
If you do receive one of these calls, it would help police if you were to call to Action Fraud on 0300 1232040, or by clicking on the link in the tweet.
